SYDNEY: The Armenian-Australian community's joint Facebook fundraiser for the Armenians of Lebanon has reached $50,000, and is still ongoing.

We all watched in horror as a port hangar exploded on August 4th, resulting in over 135 deaths and 5,000 injuries to date. Sadly, the explosion was in close proximity to heavily Armenian-populated towns, including Bourj Hammoud, Khalil Badawi, Hadjin, Mar Mikhael, Achrafieh, Antelias and Beirut, resulting so far in a count of 13 community deaths and over 250 injuries.

The fundraiser, branded #BachigsForBeirut and supported by all major Armenian-Australian organisations, reached $24,000 in 24 hours and has now surpassed $50,000.

Now is the time to give back to a community which has historically – and until the recent disaster – stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the Motherland, Artsakh and Diasporan communities.
