SYDNEY: The Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC Australia) has thanked Sweden's Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Mr. Sven-Olof Petersson after Sweden recognised the Armenian Genocide last week.
The Parliament of Sweden reached the positive conclusion after a long debate, passing a resolution which mandates Sweden to officially describe the large-scale murders of Armenians and other ethnic groups in Turkey in the early years of the last century as genocide.
ANC Australia President Varant Meguerditchian said: "The united Armenian battle for justice for victims of the Armenian Genocide continues to gain real momentum after recent decisions in South Australia, the United States House Committee on Foreign Affairs and now Sweden."
He added: "This decision by Sweden raises hopes for the Federal Parliament of Australia to also recognise the Genocide of Armenians."
