ADELAIDE: The Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU) has congratulated Hon. Peter Malinauskas on his success at the polls during the 2022 South Australian state elections on 19 March 2022.
Peter Malinauskas will be the 47th Premier of South Australia, leading his Labor Party to victory against incumbent Steven Marshall, who served as Premier between 2018 - 2022.
Malinauskas has since named his 15 member cabinet, which includes several members of the Australian Friends of Artsakh network, including Hon. Andrea Michaels MP, Minister for Small and Family Business and Minister for Customer and Business Affairs and Hon. Joe Szakacs, who will serve as Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Correctional Services.
Hon. Tom Koutsantonis MP, who championed a historic motion in 2021 which saw South Australia become the second state in Australia to recognise the rights to self-determination of the people of the Republic of Artsakh, also has a new portfolio as Minister for Infrastructure and Transport and Minister for Energy and Mining.
ANC-AU Executive Director Haig Kayserian said: “We first met Mr. Peter Malinauskas at a 2018 Adelaide screening of Armenian Genocide docu-film, Architects of Denial, and he has since proven to be a friend to the Armenian-Australian community of South Australia.”
“We congratulate Mr. Malinauskas on his election to South Australia’s top governing position, where we look forward to working with him and his cabinet, which includes many familiar faces to our community,” Kayserian added.
The Armenian National Committee of Australia also extended their best wishes to outgoing Premier Steven Marshall.
“We congratulate Mr. Steven Marshall for his service as Premier over the past four years and wish him best in his future endeavours,” Kayserian added.
