Armenian soldier killed in Syria

ALLEPPO (Yerkir Media)—Another Armenian soldier has fallen victim to the unrest in Syria. Levon Kuyoumjian, 20, was killed in clashes on the Syrian-Turkish border at the at Bab al-Hawa checkpoint.

Earlier this month an Armenian church and school, operating under the auspices of the Prelacy of Syria, were attacked in the Syrian city of Homs by members of the Syrian opposition.

The school and the school, which are located in Hamidia district, mainly populated by Arab Christians will be used by them as a hospital and convalescence center.

In March, an Armenian woman, Araxie Bedrosian was one of the victims when 200 kilograms of explosives were placed in a car in the Sulaymaniyeh neighborhood in Aleppo, near a Latin church and two primary schools. It is in an area heavily populated by Christians, including many Armenians.

on February 10, two suicide car bombs targeting Syrian regional military and security headquarters shook Aleppo, claiming 28 victims, among them army soldier Viken Hairabedian.

The situation is Syria is still tense. UN and Arab League Envoy Kofi Annan stated after his meeting with Bashar al-Assad in Syria that the conflict has reached a “tripping point.” In his interview to journalists Annan said his peace plan was not being implemented “as it must be”.

The latest skirmishes in the city of Houla, near Homs, claimed 108 lives.
