ANKARA (News.am)-The Turkish government denied media reports Thursday that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan would visit the United States on April 12 for an international Nuclear Summit.
"The information spread by media on Turkish Premier's decision to leave for Washington is untrue," said Deputy Prime Minister Cemil Cicek, referring to reports Wednesday that Erdogan and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu would travel to Washington DC for the two day conference.
Cicek said it was unclear whether Erdogan would attend the summit. The Turkish premier earlier this month said he would not fly to Washington because of a vote on March 4 by the US House Foreign Affairs Committee to approve the Armenian Genocide resolution.
"Turkey does not deserve this," Cicek said, referring to the resolution. "Both countries have always been in close and friendly relations, expressing desire for deepening of mutually beneficiary relations. We have always reiterated potential risks that arise from decisions incumbent upon historians but given by parliamentarians."
"Discussions on the matter are still underway. U.S. House of Representative nailed Turkey on charge, which we do not accept. We tried hard to prove that the historians' decisions do harm if voiced by politicians," Cicek added.
