The Armenian Relief Society (ARS) of Western USA issued a statement on Tuesday condemning recent attacks on Aleppo’s mainly Armenian inhabited district of Nor Kyough by extremist Islamist opposition forces, which have led to loss of lives and the destruction of historic properties that were important to Syria’s Armenian community.

In condemning the attacks on Nor Kyough, the ARS WUSA is also calling on the community to lend a helping hand to those in Syria who are in dire need by making financial donations. Below is the full statement from the ARS WUSA.

The Armenian Relief Society of Western USA joins the greater ARS family and the Armenian community, to condemn the recent attacks in Syria, in particular the Armenian populated ‘Nor Kyough’ suburb of Aleppo. Armenian community institution buildings have been destroyed or partially damaged, due to anti-Armenian attacks, alongside them, the ARS Syria shelter where many Armenians are provided with shelter and food.

Despite the calamities, the Syrian-Armenian community courageously continues its struggle for survival. However, our brethren cannot continue to endure without our support and assistance.

The ARS cannot stand idly by in the face of these inhumane acts. The Armenians in Syria are in desperate need for our assistance and it is our duty to lend our brethren a helping hand.

With the objective of mitigating the disaster, the ARS Regional Executive calls upon its membership to immediately step into action, with the support of their families and friends, by providing financial assistance to our Syrian Armenian brethren.

ARS Regional Executive Chairperson, Lena Bozoyan states, “We are saddened and outraged by the direct bombardments on the Armenian communities and establishments in the ‘Nor Kyough’ region of Aleppo, Syria. We demand from all human rights organisations, as well as responsible parties, to intervene and save innocent lives. We will do our best to provide assistance to our brothers and sisters in the disaster zone.”
