Emphasising the important role of the Armenian community in Syrian life, the interlocutors discussed problems the Armenian community faces today.
During the meeting Mohammed Wahid Akkad briefed the Armenian Consul on the steps taken towards the improvement of the humanitarian situation in the region.
The meeting occurred against the backdrop of two Armenian deaths as a result of continued missile attacks by extremist militants, targeting the Armenian-populated Nor Kyugh district of Aleppo.
The attacks resulted in another Armenian fatality. Armenpress reports that the victim was Vrezh Chapaghjurian. According to the source, there are also several wounded Armenians, whose names are not known yet.
On Monday, a day before the meeting, in the Sebil neighborhood of Aleppo, an Armenian woman died from mortar wounds, Armenpess reported. The victim was Seda Basmajian, born in 1942. Her funeral ceremony will take place on June 17 at the Armenian Apostolic Church of the Holy Mother of God.
During the last two months, dozens of Armenians have been injured or killed n Aleppo. The situation has rapidly deteriorated, in particular, in the Armenian-populated Nor Kyugh district, since the first days of June. Terrorist groups have assaulted the neighborhood with rocket attacks and bombings. The attacks have caused material damage, including to historically significant properties.
