YEREVAN—Since the ceasefire agreement in 1994, Azerbaijan has been constantly escalating tensions at the line of contact by opening fire towards Nagorno Karabakh and infringing on its territory, Armenian Defence Minister Seyran Ohanian said at a government meeting.

“Over the past few years the tension has expanded to Tavush province in the northeast of Armenia,” Seyran Ohanians said.

Speaking of the recent act of sabotage by Azeri commandos in Karvachar, he said the Ministry of Defence, in cooperation with the police and the National Security Service, has done its best to investigate the members of the commando group.

“We took relevant measures, sent more troops to that region and revealed all members of the group that entered Karvachar,” Ohanian said.

According to the Minister, the Commanders of the Nagorno Karabakh Defence Army are strengthening the service at the frontline to prevent future attempts of incursion. At the same time, measures are being taken to reassure the population that the army is meeting its tasks.
