YEREVAN—Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan congratulated Turkey’s Recept Tayyip Erdogan on his recent victory in the Turkish presidential elections, the President’s press office reported.
“I congratulate you on your election as President of the Republic of Turkey. I wish good health to you and prosperity and progress to the Turkish people,” Sargsyan's congratulatory remarks said.
“Taking the office of President of the Republic of Turkey, you, undoubtedly, have the possibility to make a contribution to the fulfillment of the bilateral agreements, which we have reached, without any preconditions,” Sargsyan said about the yet-unratified Turkish-Armenian protocols.
Turkey continues to announce about the absence of intention to open the borders with Armenia on official level. As “Armenpress” reports, the Turkish President’s top advisor for Foreign Policy Affairs, Ambassador Gurcan Turkoglu informed Azerbaijani “APA” news agency that rumors about opening Armenian-Turkish border in September are groundless.
Among other things, Gurcan Turkoglu underscored: “The road from Igdir to Alican customs post on the border with Armenia has been paved with asphalt not for the opening of the border, but for free movement of the people in the region.”
