The group of parliamentary leaders, led by Speaker of the National Assembly Galust Sahakian, visited the villages of Moses and Barekamavan, where they also met with soldiers guarding the border near those villages.
The members of parliament took part in an inauguration ceremony of a memorial monument for 21 freedom fighters from Barekamavan, who died in defense of their fatherland.
The ceremony was attended by the entire village of Barekamavan, including Mayor Gagik Abazian. Speaker Galust Sahakian, Defense Minister Seyran Ohanian, and two relatives of the fallen freedom fighters spoke during the ceremony. Ohanian also awarded honorific medals to a group of veteran freedom fighters.
The memorial, a modern Armenian khatchkar (cross stone) was sculpted by another veteran of the Artsakh Liberation War, architect Andranik Davtian.
The participating members of parliament included Heritage party leader Ruben Hakobian, Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) parliamentary leader Armen Rustamian, member of the Rule of Law party Ishkhan Khachatrian, Armenian National Congress (HAK) parliamentary leader Levon Zurabian, member of the Prosperous Armenia party Gurgen Arsenian and Republican Party secretary Gagik Melikian.
