YEREVAN—A delegation from the South Korea-Armenia Friendship Group of the National Assembly of South Korea is currently in Armenia on an official visit. Lead by parliament member Noh Young-Min, the delegation visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan and met with the President of the National Assembly of Armenia, Galust Sahakyan.

The South Korean delegation visited the Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan on Friday. The parliament members were accompanied by the Armenian head of the Armenia-South Korea Friendship Group, Samvel Farmanyan, as well as Armenia’s Ambassador to Japan and South Korea, Hrant Poghosyan.

The South Korean deputies—on behalf of the South Korea-Armenia Friendship Group—placed a wreath at the Genocide Memorial and stood in silence near the eternal flame in memory of the victims of the Genocide.

The parliament members also visited the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, where they were familiarized with the history of the Genocide. They signed the guestbook of the Museum-Institute.

The South Korean parliament members also met with the President of the National Assembly of Armenia, Galust Sahakyan, on Friday.

Sahakyan highlighted the development of Armenian-South Korean relations, and noted the deepening of parliamentary ties between the two countries. He praised South Korea’s balanced approach toward matters that are of importance to Armenia.

Sahakyan also spoke about the Armenian National Assembly’s global initiative, “Parliamentarians Against Genocide,” which urges the parliaments of the world to condemn the crime of genocide.

Leader of the South Korean delegation, Noh Young-min, expressed the “great pain” he experienced while visiting the Armenian Genocide Museum-Insitute and learning about the tragedy that befell the Armenian people. Noh added that South Korea and Armenia have shared the same fate.

“I am convinced that unless we remember history, it will repeat itself. The question of Hitler: After all who remembers Armenian Genocide?’ is memorable, and the facts and stories about the tragedy should be spread all over the world,” Noh said.

Noh also presented Sahakyan with his book, Contemporary Tragedies, whose first chapter is devoted to the Armenian Genocide.

Sahakyan awarded Noh with the Medal of Honor of the National Assembly of Armenia in recognition of his efforts to strengthen Armenian-South Korean friendship and ties.
