YEREVAN (ARMENPRESS)—Following Iran’s nuclear deal with six major powers reached last month, many countries are expected to make new investments in Iran after economic sanctions are lifted. But Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said that his country will give its neighbors priority with economic cooperation.

Rouhani made his announcement during a meeting with Azerbaijani Minister of Economy and Industry Shahin Mustafayev.

Rouhani called Azerbaijan a “gate to [the] Caucasus.” At the same time, Rouhani said that Iran can become a “route to the Persian Gulf” for Azerbaijan.

Referring to the cooperation over energy, Rouhani mentioned that “joint investments in the Caspian Sea can open a new page in that sector.”

Mustafayev expressed confidence that the nuclear deal with Iran will have a favorable impact on regional cooperation and stability.

Mustafayev also met with Oil Minister of Iran Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, where Mustafayev mentioned that Iran can use Azerbaijani infrastructure to export its oil and gas to Europe and later join the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP).

The Iranian Minister said that trade between the two countries is currently estimated at 500 million USD, which can grow several times.
