Armenian wrestler wins first place after defeating Turkish competitor

ARTASHAT (Combined Sources)—Wrestler Vazgen Tevanyan (54kg) from Artashat, Armenia won first place in his weight category after defeating a Turkish wrestler at the Junior Freestyle Wrestling Championship in Serbia on August 4-5.

Another Armenian wrestler, Arsen Harutyunyan (46kg) from Masis, also took the first place prize in his weight category at the competition according to the director of the Raffi Golecyan Artashat Olympic Relay Sport School, Grigor Simonyan.

250 wrestlers from different countries participated in the European Wrestling Championship. 10 athletes from Armenia represented the Artashat School.

In related news, Armenia’s national boxing team began its participation in the European Boxing Championship in Sofia, Bulgaria with a win.

Hovhannes Bachkov (64kg) took the first place prize after defeating Artur Ahmetov of Latvia on the first day of the competition.

Henrik Sargsyan (91kg) and heavyweight Rafael Simonyan dropped out of the competition after losing in the first round.
