YEREVAN (ARMENPRESS)—Leaders and human rights activists of the Armenian community in the Republic of Georgia have asked the Georgian government to respond to a document found on the official website of the city council of Khulo, which they say reveals signs of hatred toward Armenians and incitement of ethnic tension. The city of Khulo is located in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara in Georgia and inhabited mainly by Georgian Muslims and ethnic Turks.
According to reports, the document specifically refers to former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili as being Armenian himself, and not in a positive light.
“That Armenian Sahak has so much brains to follow Zurab Zhvania Murder Case from distance,” reads the document. The document was adopted on behalf of the Khulo Municipality’s “Georgian Dream” political party and uploaded to the city council’s official website.
Nine non-governmental organizations representing the Armenian community of Georgia have urged the ruling coalition government to investigate the document and inform the public about possible sanctions that could be imposed on the regional party for its statement.
