YEREVAN (ARMENPRESS)—During a question and answer period with the government of Armenia in the National Assembly, Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian said that Armenia would recognize the independence of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic as well as assure its safety, if negotiations with Azerbaijan failed and Azeri officials turned to military actions.
National Assembly member Zaruhi Postanjyan of the Heritage Party asked Nalbandian about the issue of Artsakh’s independence during the question and answer session.
Postanjyan also asked Nalbandian about Azerbaijan’s membership in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
Nalbandian said that Azerbaijan’s membership to the CSTO has not been discussed among member states.
“Such [a] question is not discussed in [the] CSTO. Armenia is a CSTO member, and each member has a right to express an opinion. Such decisions should be made by consensus,” Nalbandian said.
