YEREVAN (Public Radio of Armenia)—The 8th Global Armenian High Tech Business Conference, ArmTech Congress 2015, will be held on October 12-14 in Armenia and Artsakh.

The conference will be held under the patronage of the Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan.

The ArmTech Conference is expected to further expand the frontiers of the Armenian high tech industry and attract new participants and prominent representatives of the global technology community.

The conference will bring together a wide range of industry business leaders and corporate executives, representatives of universities, research centers and related global organizations, and government officials from Armenia, the U.S., Russia, the European Union, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Middle East and North Africa, and South-East Asia.

The event will focus on the Armenian tech industry’s current and future participation in a dynamic global economy, its immense potential for development, and exceptional proposals for joint ventures and investment.

Iranian entrepreneurs are showing lively interest in Armenia’s agriculture and information technology sector, according to Hmayak Avetisyan, a diplomat in the Iranian embassy in Yerevan overseeing trade and economic relations with Armenia.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a three-day Iran-Armenia business forum in Yerevan, Avetisyan said that in Iran, there is also interest in Armenian small and medium-sized businesses as well as the technology industry.

“We believe that bilateral meetings can help boost the trade between the two countries. However, the range of Armenian products is small and there are also some limitations. For example, sales of alcoholic products are banned in Iran,” Avetisyan said.

The head of the Union of Entrepreneurs of Iran, Mohammad Hossein Yousef Zadeh, said that Iranian businessmen have been working with Armenia for 20 years.

“From Armenia we always exported and continue to export wood, potatoes, lamb and industrial equipment,” he said.

According to Zadeh, Iran provides Armenia with raw materials in large quantities, which are further processed. Finished products are then exported to different countries.

The Iranian delegation that has arrived in Yerevan for the forum includes representatives of 22 companies involved in various businesses.

According to the Armenian National Statistical Service, Armenia’s exports to Iran in the first eight months of 2015 grew by 1.8% year-on-year to $50 million, while imports from Iran rose by 0.1% to $128.1 million.
