YEREVAN (ARMENPRESS)—Armenian parliament speaker Galust Sahakyan met with his Syrian counterpart Mohammad Jihad Al-Laham who expressed his gratitude to Armenia for assisting the Syrian people. The two speakers met during the 133rd Inter-Parliamentary Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.
Sahakyan said during his meeting with Al-Laham that Armenia feels “great pain” over the war in Syria.
“We are more than friends with Syria. We never forget that Syria warmly accepted the Armenians [who] escaped from [the] Genocide and assured them [livable] conditions,” Sahakyan said.
Speaking on multilateral cooperation with Syria, Sahakyan assured that Armenian parliament members would continue to maintain friendly relations with Syria.
Al-Laham invited Sahakyan to visit Syria while expressing his gratitude for their meeting, mentioning that the, “Russian-Syrian alliance recorded serious successes. We are grateful to you for staying near us and supporting us, and I ask you to transmit Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s gratitude to Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian.”
