TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)— Secretary of Iran’s Expediency Council (EC) Mohsen Rezayee called on China to adopt more practical measures and take a greater role in fighting against terrorist groups, specifically ISIL.
“China can greatly help the regional peace and stability by becoming more active in the fight against ISIL practically,” Rezayee said in a meeting with members of a Chinese delegation in Tehran on Thursday.
He also underlined Iran’s preparedness to create cultural grounds and interaction with the Chinese Muslims to confront infiltration of Takfiri thoughts and streams in Central and Far East Asia.
In relevant remarks in November 2014, Iranian First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri in a meeting with Head of the Central Politburo of the Chinese Communist Party Meng Jianzhu in Tehran underlined the need for Tehran-Beijing cooperation to confront extremism and terrorism in the region.
“The worst form of violence is underway in Iraq and Syria today and Iran is ready to cooperate with China in resolving the regional problems,” Jahangiri said during the meeting.
After his remarks, Iranian and Chinese officials in a meeting in Tehran in the same month agreed to increase cooperation in several areas, including campaign against money laundering and extradition of financial offenders.
The agreement was reached between Head of Iran’s General Inspectorate Organization Nasser Seraj and Chinese Deputy Prosecutor General Jiang Xian Chu in the Iranian capital.
“We are willing to increase our cooperation in campaign against financial and political corruption, terrorism and money laundering,” Seraj said during the meeting.
The senior Chinese official, for his part, pointed to the age-old relations between the two nations, and expressed the hope that mutual cooperation between the two countries would further expand in fight against terrorism and financial corruption.
