TEHRAN (Combined Sources) — Following a meeting between Armenian Minister of Transport and Communications Gagik Beglaryan and Iran’s First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri, both parties discussed the new perspectives that the lifting of sanctions opens up.

“There are no restrictions, when it comes to the development of Tehran’s relations with Yerevan. Armenia and Iran have always enjoyed good-neighborly relations,” Jahangiri said.

“The lifting of sanctions opens up new perspectives for the development of banking cooperation between the two countries and raise the level of bilateral relations to a new level,” Jahangiri added.

Touching upon the joint projects in the transport sector, Beglaryan noted that “Armenia is willing to use the capacities of the Iranian companies and contractors, considering their huge experience in the implementation of such projects.”

In addition, Armenia and Iran have agreed to expand cooperation in the field of e-commerce and postal communications.

The agreements were signed by Iran’s Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology, Mahmoud Vaezi, and Beglaryan in Tehran on January 19.

The agreements are expected to pave the way for expansion of cooperation between Iran and Armenia in publishing common stamps and postal exchanges as well as electronic transactions.

According to Vaezi, after a visit to Armenia by an Iranian delegation three weeks ago, cooperation between the two parties has increased greatly.

In Tehran, Beglaryan and Iranian Minister of Transportation and Communications Abbas Akhundi also discussed the creation of a transport corridor from the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea.

Akhundi was quoted as saying in reference to a possible construction of a railway link between the two countries that the sides need to reach an agreement on the financing of the project.

He said also that last year the volume of Armenian-Iranian cargo transportation grew by 50%.  10,000 Iranian trucks arrived in Armenia and 2,000 Armenian trucks traveled to Iran.
