YEREVAN(Armenpress) — During a session of PACE’s Committee on Migration, Refugees, and Displaced Persons, Armenian Parliamentarian Naira Karapetyan called upon PACE to assist to OSCE Minks Group in introducing mechanisms for investigations of ceasefire violations on the contact line of Artsakh and Azerbaijan.
The Executive Director of LINKS London Research Institute Dennis Sammut, who was speaking on “migration challenges in South Caucasus and the entire region” during the session agreed with Karapetyan’s remark, adding that a lot of times the information gap on the situation prevents the right perception.
Sammut stressed in his speech the risk of maintaining the existing status quo in Nagorno Karabakh, as the basis of which the emergence of new refugees from this region. “I called upon the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly to assist the OSCE Minsk Group in carrying out the investigation of ceasefire violations, which is continuously being rejected by Azerbaijan,” Karapetyan said.
According to the PACE official website, it is expected that the Commission will adopt the results of several reports on the rights of refugees in the Balkans, the issue of Europe’s response to Syrian refugees and violence against migrants.
