STEPANAKERT (Tert.am)—Tuesday’s vote by the Hawaii legislature to recognize the independence and self-determination of the people of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic was hailed by the country’s presidential office, whose spokesperson, David Babayan calling it “one more step toward” Artsakh’s international recognition.
Calling it a “victory for the Armenian people,” Babayan said that Hawaii’s recognition was “a great political, legal and moral victory, which stems from national values and special respect for Artsakh.”
“We believe that it is one more significant victory of the Armenian people and one more significant step in international recognition of independent Artsakh. It is our common victory as it has been built up due to our unity – Armenia-Artsakh-Diaspora,” said Babayan.
Babayan also expressed Artsakh’s gratitude to the people and government of Hawaii.
He also said that this recognition, which comes on the eve of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to the US, should serve as a clear message.
And Hawaii is the seventh US state to recognize independent Nagorno-Karabakh, following Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Louisiana, Maine, California and most recently Georgia.
