Artsakh President Bako Sahakian met with the pontiffs
STEPANAKERT—His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians and His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia on Wednesday arrived in Artsakh where they met with Nagorno-Karabakh Republic President Bako Sahakian.
The two church leaders were briefed on the latest developments following the savage attack by Azerbaijani forces against the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
Sahakian said that during the attacks the Armenian nation demonstrated exemplary unity, commitment and a national spirit, adding that the Armenian Church played a critical role in that process.
The president also underscored the historic significance of the trip by the two church leaders as it is the first time the two pontiffs are visiting Artsakh together.

The two pontiffs were greeted by a military guard upon arrival in Stepanakert
Primate of the Artsakh Diocese Archbishop Pargev Martirosyan, participated in the meeting with a group of clerics and representatives from the church.
According to the press office of the Cilician Catholicoste, the pontiffs arrived in Artsakh at noon Wednesday and were greeted by a military guard.
Catholicos Aram I arrived in Yerevan Tuesday and, together with Karekin II, met with President Serzh Sarkisian.
During the meeting, the latest situation was discussed with a special emphasis on the importance of national mobilization and unity around Artsakh.
