The Armenian weightlifting team returned from Fjord, Norway last night after competing in the European Weightlifting Championships.
The athletes were greeted at Zvartnots airport by President of the National Olympic Committee Gagik Tsarukyan, Minister of Sport and Youth affairs Gabriel Ghazaryan, fans and relatives.
The Armenian team was the first with the overall number of medals won (8 gold, 7 silver and 3 bronze medals). Turkey and Ukraine came in second and third respectively.
Armenia’s Hripsime Khurshudyan won the women’s overall weightlifting gold medal, lifting 113 kg in the snatch and 137 in the clean & jerk.
Gor Minasyan won a silver medal in the super heavyweight class for the men’s team, lifting 205 kg in the snatch and 237 kg in the clean & jerk.
Andranik Karapetyan became the winner in the 77 kg weight category, with Tigran Martirosyan coming second. Nazik Avdalyan won the gold in the 69 kg weight category.
Simon Martirosyan (105 kg) won a bronze medal.
Thus, Armenia became the winner of the European team championship with a total of 449 points.
