SAN FRANCISCO—A high-level delegation of the ARF-Dashnaktsutiune Western US met with Russia’s Consul General Sergey Petrov on Friday to discuss recent developments in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict following savage attacks by Azerbaijan in early April—known as the four-day war—which claimed military and civilian lives.

The ARF delegation was headed by the Western US Central Committee Chairman Daron Der Khachadourian and included fellow CC member Garo Ispendjian and ARF San Francisco chapter chairman Varant Kasparian.

The discussion centered on the “Four Day War” in April and the human and financial toll it has taken on the people of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.

While praising historic Russian-Armenian relations, the delegation discussed Russia’s role in the region. Furthermore, the Russian envoy was asked whether official Moscow could have shared information with Yerevan that would have subsided the April attacks and what steps, if any, were being taken to ensure that such escalation and unprovoked aggression does not occur in the future.

The delegation also welcomed recent efforts by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries, of which is Russia along with France and the US, to enforce mechanisms that ensured the security of the region and the decision to elevate the role of the permanent representative of the OSCE chairman in office.

The Friday meeting was part of larger plan to outreach and meet with representatives of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries and other key stakeholders, to express the Diaspora’s concerns over the recent escalation of the Karabakh conflict.

Last month, a delegation representing the Western and Eastern U.S. leadership of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation held a meeting at the Apostolic Nunciature to the U.S.—the Vatican Embassy—to discuss Azerbaijan’s recent aggression against Artsakh, and called on the Holy See to advance peace in the region.
