YEREVAN (Armenpress)—Over the last 1.5 years, as a result of the Azerbaijani shelling and bombing, nearly 1600 houses were damaged and seven civilians were killed near the bordering area of Tavush province, Tavush Governor Hovik Abovyan said at the meeting with the delegation of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee led by Thomas Goffus.
Abovyan also spoke about the damages done to the agriculture which occur both during agricultural work during the spring, as well as during harvesting. He told the delegation that there are numerous cases where Azerbaijanis targeted schools of the bordering communities. Although certain defensive measures were taken, however, the children’s safety is still in danger.
Other community heads also introduced to the delegation the existing situation in their communities.
On Thursday, July 21, the U.S. delegation staff visited the 3rd Army Corps of Armenian Defense Ministry.
They had a meeting with Armenia’s First Deputy Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan and the command staff of the Corps.
The meeting included a presentation of the current situation at the state border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, frequency of ceasefire violations made by the Azerbaijani side, and its consequences.
