Armenia, France to intensify defense cooperation

YEREVAN (ArmRadio)—Armenian Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan on Monday met with French Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia Jean-Francois Charpentier, Armenia’s Defense Ministry reported.

Sarkisian attached importance to France’s efforts towards the Karabakh peace process in its capacity as an OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair.

The interlocutors praised the high level of interstate relations and noted that there is great potential for developing bilateral cooperation in the field of defense, especially in international peacekeeping.

The parties agreed to work towards intensification of cooperation of their defense ministries and on the military-political level.

Reference was made to issues of regional security.

Sargsyan later that day held a meeting with Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan, Ambassador Argo Avakov, the Ministry reported.

During the meeting, discussion included issues related to the cooperation agenda between the Defense Ministry and the OSCE Office in Yerevan, as well as the ongoing joint projects. The sides highly appreciated the continuous expansion of mutual cooperation sectors and the realization of a number of projects within the framework of bilateral cooperation.

Sargsyan attached importance to the assistance of the OSCE Office in Yerevan aimed at strengthening army-society ties, ethics in the defense sector, reducing corruption risks, and raising awareness on the rights of servicemen.
