DOHA, Qatar (Armenpress)—The possibility of visa liberalization between Armenia and Qatar was discussed during a meeting between Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian and Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha.

During the meeting, the parties highlighted with satisfaction that the tourism from Gulf countries, including from Qatar to Armenia are increasing year by year and the flights operating by Qatar airlines play a significant role in this. The officials also discussed the possibility for visa liberalization between both countries, as well as the prospect to develop cooperation with the Qatari airlines aimed at expanding the mutually beneficial partnership.

Armenia’s President and the Emir of Qatar attached importance to expanding the legal framework in terms of boosting the mutually beneficial commercial cooperation, as well as holding session of inter-governmental commission.

The Armenian side proposed to discuss a number of investment programs in various spheres. The use of Armenia’s transit opportunities was considered, especially the entry to the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) via Armenia.

The heads of aviation of both countries also received instructions from Sarkisian and the Emir of Qatar to hold discussions within the frameworks of the visit.

In addition to bilateral ties, the sides also discussed the development opportunities of mutual partnership at multilateral format.

Sarkisian and Hamad Al Thani also touched upon the peaceful settlement process of the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Republic conflict.

Armenia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Qatar Gegham Gharibjanyan said the citizens of Qatar will arrive in Armenia not only for business, tourism or agricultural purposes, but also for the fact that the flight lasts only two hours.

“It is very close, in contrast to Europe, Qatar Airways operates this flight, and in near future the flight will be operated two times a week. This will significantly boost tourism since people not only from the Gulf countries, but also from Asia and America will arrive in Armenia,” the Ambassador said.
