Since 2009, we have provided this report revealing your viewing habits on armenia.com.au over the year just past, something that has proven to be popular for our loyal readership.

Therefore, we bring you the 2016 edition!

Armenia Online attracted over 110,000 pageviews during the 12 months from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016, with visitors being treated to news and views from Armenia and the Armenian world.

NOW WE PRESENT... the Armenia Online stories of the year, based on official readership figures compiled since January 1, 2016.

 

TOP STORY OF THE YEAR

The top news-making events came from the Motherland in 2016. The April attacks on Nagorno Karabakh dominated the minds and souls of our readers, while the armed anti-government attack by a group called "Sasna Dzrer" focused Armenian eyes on Yerevan in July. The plight of Armenians in Syria was also front-and-centre in our coverage, while the widest coverage of Australian-based news, political, education, sports, cultural, etcetera remained popular.

The winner of this category in 2016 was the report from the Armenian National Committee of Australia's (ANC-AU) Annual Banquet, where over $90,000 was raised to assist with Armenian advocacy efforts by the peak public affairs body of the community. This is always the most competitive category, with events rating well with our audience. The most read event story in 2016 was covering the biggest event of 2016, which was the #MARCHFORJUSTICE. Armenia TV (Australia) moved on from broadcasting episodes to clips of its reports and interviews in 2016.

SOMETHING NEW...

The previously mentioned #ARTSAKHSTRONG TELETHON, which ended up raising more than the announced $112,000 for Artsakh, was a community-first. Armenia TV (Australia) broadcast it live via Facebook Live, while Armenia Radio also ran live coverage. The 3-4 hour event in August was a massive success in terms of viewer numbers on Facebook, with our key broadcast clips eclipsing 7,000 views!
