Dr. Richard Hovanissian at Times Square Commemoration On May 1, 2011, thousands of Armenians, Jews and human rights activists joined with political leaders in commemorating the Armenian Genocide and marking Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah) at a special Times Square observance. The two-hour program included remarks by Senators Charles Schumer (D-NY), Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Representatives Frank Pallone (D-NJ) and Anthony Weiner (D-NY) with the presentation of a proclamation by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg honoring the occasion.  Representatives of the Armenian American and Jewish American communities offered remarks about the importance of vigilance in properly commemorating and preventing genocide.
